Stolen from Laura … here are some movies that I love to pop into the DVD player when I need some comforting. You know, those “go-to” movies that I just love and always put me into a better mood when I watch them. (And I watched most of these when Jeff and the kids were away in Indiana.) I’m sure that I can think of more, but here are a few off the top of my head. See if you can guess what they are. (And what are yours?)

Lucas turns five (FIVE!!!) in March, and we’re searching for somewhere great to have his birthday party. Why not here at home? Well, we could … but there are 14 other students in his preschool class. And while I’m sure that not all of them will be able to make it, that’s a lot of kids to have in one home! (This will be his first preschool friends-only party.)
We love Imaguration, but unfortunately it’s closing on February 14th. I checked into renting the large room in our local fire station, but it’s $400! (You get the $100 deposit back, but still …) Our town hall doesn’t rent for special occasions. The fellowship hall in the church where the kids attend preschool is $150 for 25 or fewer people, which sounds fine to me ~ but you also have to take out insurance through your homeowner’s policy! There’s our town’s train station, but the parking and bathroom situation isn’t great there. Someone told us about another church in the area that rents its fellowship hall for $25, but I’m not sure what it looks like and what that includes (need to check). We have a great playground in our town, but who knows what the weather will be like on March 20th?
Jeff suggested Jeepers in Albany (where we attended a classmate’s birthday party last year) or a bowling alley. But it’s a “Star Wars” birthday party. (Why can’t there be a planetarium or something similar in our county?) Plus, those locations were pretty chaotic, and I don’t deal with that well. I suppose that if we had the party at our house, we could have all the food downstairs and then hold the party in our bonus room (it’s a good size ~ 24′x24′). That way, guests would be upstairs and downstairs and not all crowded into one room at one time.
What to do? We’ve never had one of the kids’ parties elsewhere, so it’ll be very different. At least we pretty much have the menu figured out!
I don’t really enjoy talking on the phone, and I think it’s because I don’t think fast enough on my feet. I usually end up saying something dumb or revealing something that I didn’t necessarily want to say. And I just feel like I can’t express myself as well over the phone as I can through an e-mail. Sometimes there are awkward silences, too, and I start blabbing because I feel like I have to fill the space and “keep up” the conversation. Everyone has a different phone talking style, it seems.

I so need to visit the dentist. Last night, I was eating some chips covered with Girl from Florida’s awesome Buffalo chicken cheddar dip, and I think that part of a chip got lodged in a hole that I have in one of my back teeth (top right). Yes, I have a hole in one of my teeth. Part of the tooth chipped off, either from decay or from a sharp food that I ate (probably chips, LOL!). Anyway, it hasn’t really given me much trouble, but last night it started aching. Badly. Jeff bought me some ibuprofen and Orajel, and that helped immensely. It still aches this morning, but it’s not nearly as bad as before. Oh man, I need to telephone the dentist ASAP tomorrow. :(
I’ve had a head cold for the past week, too. I’ve basically been living on hot tea with honey. This morning, though, I’m enjoying some decaf hazelnut cream coffee ~ delicious! There’s a breakfast today at the church where our kids attend preschool, and I’ve been looking forward to going, but part of me wonders whether I should just stay home and try to get some rest.

I finished an
Etsy order the other day ~ nine washcloths with matching soaps. Easy and so much fun. I’m also done with knitting the back of Meredith’s sweater ~ although it doesn’t seem long enough for her torso. I guess I’ll see how it looks when it’s finished. I’m working on the front now. The armhole shaping gave me some problems at first, but now I
think that I understand what I’m supposed to do.
Anyone excited about the Winter Olympics? I can’t wait! :)
Ever since “Aunt” Vicky and “Aunt” Natalie gave her the new Tinker Bell movie for Christmas, Meredith has fallen in love with her. They even look a little bit alike, I think! :)
Hmm … I wonder if I could sew Meredith a cute little Tinker Bell costume for Halloween? I’d better start now if I want to get it done in time! We could find her a pair of cute, sparkly green shoes and glue little white pompoms on top. And I know that Imaguration has fairy wings. I could probably sew the dress part, although I’d change it to include short sleeves. (Let’s face it ~ Tinker Bell doesn’t really wear much clothing, and it’s usually cold here on Halloween! LOL!)
My friend Theresa told me about Pixie Hollow, so the other day I tried introducing it to Meredith. She isn’t too interested in using the computer mouse, though, so I had to do it for her. But she got to create her own fairy ~ her name is “Vanillaflower” ~ and discover Pixie Hollow (gathering blueberries was her favorite part!).
