Flower power

Our children’s preschool has chosen to do a spring fundraiser this year in order to help with classroom expenses. As a member of the parent advisory board, I think that we’ve decided on a very neat idea: flower bulbs. Just leafing through the catalog and looking at all of the beautiful plants and flowers cheers me up immensely and makes me very excited about spring, which is really closer than we think!
What’s your favorite flower? I love anything fragrant, like peonies, roses, carnations, and lilacs. Our yard has a lot of trees and is therefore very shaded, so we’re going to order some items that will grow well. Our soil is rather acidic, so we’re told that blueberry plants will thrive here. These blue geraniums are absolutely gorgeous ~ my favorite color! We see lilacs all over the place, so they must do OK in our zone. I’d like to order a few of those, too. Just looking at the picture has me dreaming about taking a nice walk on a gorgeous spring day, with a fragrant lilac breeze in the air!
Here’s my shameless plug. :) If you’d like to purchase something from the catalog, please let me know as soon as possible. Orders are due this Friday. If you find some things that you’d like to order, you can just send me the money via PayPal (lvjensen@alumni.indiana.edu). There’s a flat $5 shipping fee, no matter what you order ~ and your order is shipped directly to you. So convenient ~ I love that. It would really help out Lucas and Meredith’s preschool; the money goes directly toward their classes, and the preschool receives 50 percent of the profit.
Thanks so much for letting me share!

Great idea … I love that it isn’t food-based! I love supporting the kids, but I hate all the sweets in my house. I will take a look at the catalog for sure.

That’s a great idea. It’s different. :) My favorite flowers are roses and tulips. One of these days I’ll really get around to planting in our flower beds outside. I tried that a year or so ago, and it didn’t work out too well. I guess I need to be more diligent.
