I need some fashion advice

I’m so excited … I get to use some of our tax refund money for new clothes! Hooray! :) Where should I go? What should I buy? What are some pieces in your wardrobe that you really love? Shopping spree, here I come! :)

Now that I’m attending church on a pretty regular basis, I need some dressy clothes. (Nothing too dressy, though; “dress casual,” I guess. Some people wear jeans to this church.) All I have that fits right now (because of this darned weight gain ~ ugh!) is a long black skirt that I bought from Old Navy years and years ago and a pair of black dress pants that are entirely too tight around the waist. I’m thinking that maybe I can find a pair of jeans that look like dress pants ~ really, really dark jeans, maybe, and also some khakis. And I wouldn’t mind having some more long skirts in pretty colors and patterns. Church isn’t a fashion show, of course, but I just don’t want to wear the same thing over and over.

I seem to have good luck with Old Navy clothes. And frequently when I wear Old Navy stuff, I get compliments on it. Their clothes seem to hold up well, too, and aren’t insanely expensive. I should get some new shoes, too, for spring and summer. I like flats, and Old Navy has an adorable pair of denim flats that would go well with this shirt. I’m not a fan of round necklines; I like mandarin collars, V-necks, peasant blouses, etc.

Any suggestions/ideas would be much appreciated. Since I can’t really go out clothes shopping with all of you, this is the next best thing! :)

    I love Old Navy also.

Classice pieces I guess that you can mix and match. Stuff that will be timeless. Though most of classic stuff has pretty basic colors beige, black, brown but you can spruce it up with a trendy necklace, or scarf or belt?

    Hope this helps!

I like Old Navy, although mostly for my son and husband. Their clothes aren’t usually my style, but I do go there for the basics like plain tees and tanks.

My favorite way to be dress casual is jeans and a nice top. That way, I can use the same tops for work. I like drapey tops with some weight that don’t cling. Then I put a boyfriend-style cardigan over it (especially during spring when it’s freezing in the morning and hot in the afternoon).

Check Kohl’s also, if you have one nearby. I am totally stuck on Vera Wang’s simple style. She makes a great stretchyish “t-shirt” that still somehow looks and feels dressy. Pair it with a long or layered necklace or scarf, like Ani suggested, and you’re totally dressed up.

I found a lot of great things at JC Penny’s last fall and again last month. I never can find anything to fit me at Kohl’s or Old Navy.

I have dress jeans and khakis from JC Penny’s. Also, try Target, they have cute skirts!

I am a huge fan of having key pieces on hand that will get you through any situation. You can dress this stuff up or down with a different top and/or accessories.
I think every woman should own (for Spring/Summer):
-black crop pants (I know What Not to Wear hates them but they are very versatile)
-long black knit skirt- I have 2. They are a cotton blend. Pair with flip flops and a tshirt or nice sandals and a nicer top
-long (at least knee length) cotton printed skirts in lots of colors. I’ve read that long skirts are in this season, good thing I’ll be back in style! ha!
-couple of nicer embellished tshirts. Like a twist at the neckline or beads or something. Something that makes them a little dressier than a basic tshirt.
You’ll have to show us some of your finds!

I prefer dress pants to skirts and actually wear my gray pair the most often because I can pair it with just about any colored shirt. A dark pair of jeans is a great idea. Just throw on a pair of heels and they are instantly dressy!

Ooo clothes shopping! I love it! I recently went online to fashion bug to buy some clothes, very good deals! I also love Old Navy as they are reasonable with their pricing for most things. Nice black slacks are the way to go. I dress up a lot for work and I find myself leaning toward the more “dressier” clothes than casual so I probably won’t be much help Lisanne. You can take a nice sold color shirt and pair it with some classic jewelry and make it look very dressy.

I love the brown shirt you have in this post. I couldn’t help but notice that the shirt you linked to is plus size. Don’t know if you have any in your area or not but Fashion bug has changed there is no longer Fashion Bug and Fashion Bug Plus. Everything they sell now comes in all sizes. It’s so cool!
